¿Por qué mi gato muerde cuando lo acaricio? Señales que tu gato intenta decirte

Many of us have experienced this: you're petting your cat calmly and, suddenly, it gives you a small, unexpected bite. This can be confusing, especially if your furry friend seemed to be enjoying the moment.
In most cases, it's not aggression. Cats communicate in very different ways, and that little bite might just be their way of saying something.

So, why does this happen and when should you pay more attention? In this #PetTuesday we tell you everything you need to know

Why does my cat bite me when I pet it and what does this behavior mean?

  • Overstimulation

Kittens have very sensitive areas on their bodies, so they can feel overstimulated when they receive too many prolonged strokes.
Before biting, you may notice some signs such as, they wag their tail quickly, flatten their ears, tense their body, stare at your hand. So, if you notice one of these signs, we recommend stopping the petting for your own good.

  • Form of play

If your kitten is a baby or a teenager, biting can be part of their play since in nature, they develop their hunting skills by playing. Perhaps if it bites you while playing with you, it is channeling its hunting instinct.
One option is to offer interactive toys that allow it to release its energy, such as balls or feather toys.
At Befoods you can find a variety of toys specially designed to stimulate its natural instinct.

  • Setting boundaries

Kittens are very independent, so sometimes they are simply telling you that enough is enough for now. Respect their space and understand that cats control much more when they want to interact, unlike dogs.

  • Boredom or excess energy

If your kitten does not have enough stimulation, it can develop behaviors such as jumping, attacking hands, or biting. Therefore, we recommend dedicating time to play every day, offer toys that stimulate its mind, and maintain an activity routine.
Snacks can also reinforce positive behaviors when your cat plays without biting you.

  • Expresses affection

Although it may seem strange, some cats give small nips as a sign of affection. If it's gentle and not aggressive, it's most likely just interacting with you in its own way.

What can you do to prevent your cat from biting you when you pet it?

  • Learn to recognize the signals it will emit with its body
  • Avoid petting it for a long time
  • Play with it daily
  • Use interactive toys to redirect its energy
  • Reinforce its calm behavior with snacks

Keeping your cat active and entertained with toys, snacks, and quality food can make a big difference in its behavior and well-being.
At Befoods you will find products designed to stimulate its instinct, reduce stress, and make your furry friend happier.
