¿Por qué los perritos orinan en casa? Causas y ayudas

Puppies can urinate inside the house for various reasons, and understanding these causes is fundamental to addressing the behavior. In this #TuesdayPets we will talk about the possible reasons why they leave urine marks.

Puppies, when outdoors, urinate on posts, tree trunks, car tires, fences, etc. because they delimit their territory with these marks and pheromones (chemical substances that they release into the environment to provoke behaviors in other puppies that pass by). In addition, they sometimes over-mark when another puppy marks an object, "covering up" this mark that was left.
This behavior is very common and is a product of communication between furry friends. You will notice that this behavior will begin around 4 months of age, but from 7 months it will be more predominant.

There are also other cases where they don't mark outside, but excessively inside the house.
It is important that all these unusual behaviors are reviewed by a veterinarian because excessive marking is associated with states of permanent anxiety or social problems with other puppies with whom they live.

What are other reasons why marking inside the house is associated?

  • Lack of training: puppies that have not been trained where to go to the bathroom tend to urinate anywhere in the house. For this, it is essential that they are trained from an early age where they should urinate, eat, and drink.
  • Anxiety or stress: Changes in the environment, whether it is the arrival of a baby or new pets, owners' vacations or loss of one of them, changes in furniture placement, etc. All this can cause them to urinate excessively in the house.
  • Health problems: it can also be that, due to urinary tract infections, diabetes, kidney problems and others, your furry friend urinates more frequently and in inappropriate places.
  • Confinement: if the furry friends do not go outside during the day to do their business, and do not have a litter box inside the house, they may have no other option than to do it inside the house.

To address the problem, it is important to identify the real cause. Don't forget to consult a veterinarian to rule out serious health problems.

If it's just a lack of training, you can help with their behavior with products that you can find in all our branches and on our website.

Tip: Don't forget to maintain a consistent routine with your furry friend, provide them with space and opportunities to play and exercise to prevent stress or anxiety, and reward them during these training sessions, which will help prevent or correct the behavior.
