Dogs and cats have very special ways of communicating, and one of the most expressive is the movement of their tails. Understanding what each movement means is key to knowing how they really feel.
In this #PetTuesday, we tell you all about the language of their tails.

The language of kittens:

  • Straight or erect tail: your kitten feels confident, content, happy.
  • Bristled tail: your kitten feels fear or aggression. It feels threatened and it's a sign that it's preparing to defend itself.
  • Tail with the tip moving: your kitten is exploring, it's alert. A sign of curiosity and attention.
  • Tail curled around its body or legs: your kitten feels comfortable and calm. A sign of relaxation and comfort.
  • Slowly moving tail: your kitten is in concentration mode or may be annoyed.

The language of puppies:

  • Low tail: your puppy may feel insecure or is in submissive mode.
  • Stiff and erect tail: it's a sign that your puppy is alert. It may show aggression or is evaluating a situation.
  • Tail between its legs: your puppy feels fear or anxiety. It needs affection and tranquility.
  • Tail moving in a fast circular motion (helicopter-like): your puppy really wants to play, it has a lot of energy.
  • Tail wagging from side to side: your puppy is very happy, excited, or joyful. You can see it when you come home and it welcomes you.
